This Citrus Infused Cleaner is a great way to use what is already in your hand. It's not only satisfying and cost effective, it helps us connect with nature and fulfill the creativity we sometimes crave.
I have been making this citrus infused cleaner for years — it's such an all-rounder, and very satisfying to make if the fruit is from your own back yard. Use it as a general kitchen and bathroom cleaner for benches, sinks, baths, basins, showers, and toilets. I especially love it for wiping up oil spills, as it cuts through grease, grime, and bacteria — it's also perfect for cleaning windows and mirrors.
What You Will Need:
- Skins of 10-12 oranges, lemons, limes, mandarins, or a combination
- 1 large glass jar with a secure lid (note: metal may rust, plastic may deteriorate)
- Bottle of white vinegar
- 40 drops of essential oil blend — I Am The Guardian Essential Oil Blend is a great choice for cleaning; see our other I Am Aromatics Essential Oil options
- Alternatively, 40 drops in total of essential oils with a high antibacterial content, such as Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Lemon, Clove, or Cinnamon (feel free to contact me for ratios if you're unsure)
- Distilled or filtered water
- 500ml bottle with a spray pump (something sturdy, as vinegar can affect pump springs)
How To:
- Place skins in the glass jar. Fill with vinegar to the top of the skins and leave for two weeks in a dark space or cupboard
- Strain and pour 250ml of the vinegar into the spray bottle
- Pour 250ml of distilled or filtered water into the spray bottle
- Add 40 drops of I Am The Guardian Essential Oil Blend (or your alternative essential oil)
- Store the remainder of the infused vinegar in the cupboard for refills
- Happy cleaning!
Caution: Do not use on marble or granite. Keep away from children, do not ingest or spray in eyes. Always check the cautions of your selected essential oils.
